Global Retained Search Firms
At Top Notch Finders, we operate on the principle that a search’s success depends on the dedicated expertise of the consultant leading the engagement, not on a firm’s brand alone. Unlike the common practice at larger firms where senior partners secure the business only to delegate execution, your search will be personally managed by a Senior Partner from start to finish. This partner-led approach, a cornerstone of our Master Complex Protocol (MCP), ensures that the day-to-day execution is handled with the requisite industry depth and network access. The assigned Senior Partner will be a specialist in the manufacturing sector, bringing a demonstrable track record of placing high-caliber leaders who understand your industry’s unique challenges. This guarantees the focused, high-touch service that our retained model promises and that complex manufacturing searches demand.
Our role is to serve as your strategic advisor, not a passive order-taker. We challenge our clients to hire for the capabilities required to achieve future strategic objectives, not merely to solve today’s operational problems. We assist Boards, CEOs, and leadership teams in gaining a complete and accurate view of their organizational culture, identifying and eliminating blind spots regarding the competencies needed to drive future growth and innovation. To do this, we employ our proprietary Talent MetaManagement® framework. This robust methodology allows us to deeply understand your company’s long-term strategy and translate it into a forward-looking leadership profile. We have proven expertise in advising on the critical competencies essential for future competitiveness—such as digital fluency, sustainability leadership, and experience in managing AI-driven production environments—that may not be fully represented in your current leadership team.
Our fundamental value proposition is our ability to access, attract, nurture, engage, empower and recruit high-performing passive candidates—the top-tier executives delivering results for their current employers who are not responding to job advertisements. Our Master Complex Protocol (MCP) dictates a highly proactive sourcing strategy that moves far beyond generic claims of a “proprietary database.” Our multi-faceted approach includes strategic market mapping to identify key talent at competitor and target organizations; a disciplined, direct outreach process (“headhunting”) conducted by our Senior Partners; and the leveraging of deep, long-standing industry networks for confidential referrals, all powered by highly efficient workflow automation. We have built our reputation on a foundation of trust and credibility with these high-caliber individuals. They see us as trusted advisors in their own professional growth, which allows us to engage them in confidential conversations about new opportunities—a process requiring far more sophistication than simply screening inbound applicants.
We have evolved our methodology to assess “cultural contribution”—evaluating how a candidate will not only align with your company’s core values but also introduce new skills, competencies, capabilities, experiences, and ways of thinking that will help the culture evolve and strengthen. Our structured process, a key component of our Talent MetaManagement® framework, goes beyond standard interviews to include behavioral assessments, competency evaluations, and an in-depth analysis of a candidate’s leadership style and values, all viewed through the lens of the future of work. We possess a sophisticated understanding of our clients’ existing cultures and the ones they aspire to build. This provides a clear framework for identifying leaders who can both thrive within your organization and act as positive agents of change and innovation.
We recognize that the manufacturing industry is not a monolith; the leadership requirements of an aerospace contractor are vastly different from those of a consumer-packaged goods company. We have built our reputation on deep specialization, cultivating a network and a level of industry-specific fluency that makes us credible with top candidates across every manufacturing sub-sector. We provide concrete proof of our relevant expertise through specific, albeit anonymized, examples of successful placements for similar roles within your industry. This track record demonstrates our pre-existing network, our deep understanding of the competitive landscape, compensation benchmarks, and the specific competencies required for success. We are confident in our results and are happy to provide direct access to recent, relevant client references, which we believe is the most powerful indicator of our performance and service quality.
For Top Notch Finders, DEI is a strategic imperative, not a compliance exercise. Our commitment is demonstrated through our proactive and embedded Talent MetaManagement® methodology. We understand that relying on traditional networks can perpetuate a lack of diversity; therefore, our process is intentionally designed to counteract this by actively surfacing and attracting a diverse pool of talent. We challenge our clients to create inclusive position specifications and conduct market mapping that deliberately includes diverse talent pools. We utilize assessment techniques that mitigate unconscious bias and are committed to consistently presenting a diverse shortlist of highly qualified candidates. Our data confirms that the mere presence of diverse candidates on a shortlist materially increases the probability of a diverse hire, underscoring the strategic importance of this process discipline.
Our standard fee for a retained search is a percentage of the placed executive’s first-year total cash compensation, typically ranging from 30% to 35%, determined by the scope, complexity, and difficulty of the role. This fee is structured in three installments, or “retainers”: one-third to initiate the search, one-third upon presentation of the shortlist, and the final third upon successful placement. Our guaranteed policy underscores our partnership approach: we offer a replacement search at no additional professional fee if the placed candidate departs or is terminated for performance-related reasons within a specified period. This guarantee demonstrates our unwavering commitment to a successful, long-term outcome for your organization.
Discretion is a non-negotiable cornerstone of our executive search practice. Over 90% of our senior-level searches are linked to confidential strategic initiatives, unannounced succession plans, or the replacement of an incumbent leader. We understand that any breach of confidentiality can have severe consequences for our clients and the candidates we engage. Our Master Complex Protocol (MCP) includes rigorous protocols for maintaining confidentiality, such as the use of non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), sharing only redacted or high-level role briefs in initial outreach, employing secure methods for all data handling and communication, and using neutral sites for interviews. Our disciplined approach to confidentiality is a hallmark of our professionalism and trustworthiness.
We believe that consistent and transparent communication is the bedrock of a successful partnership. Our well-defined communication protocol, managed through a dedicated client portal, keeps you informed and engaged throughout the search. This portal provides real-time access to the complete flow of information, ensuring a regular reporting cadence that can be supplemented with weekly progress calls as needed. We provide tangible deliverables, including updates on the candidate pipeline, summaries of candidate conversations, metrics on outreach and conversion, and, critically, real-time market feedback on the role, your company’s reputation, and compensation expectations. This level of transparency, a key tenet of our MCP, allows for strategic mid-course corrections and ensures the search remains perfectly aligned with your needs.
Our engagement extends far beyond the acceptance of an offer; we view the search as a long-term partnership. The initial months of a new executive’s tenure are critical to their success, and our role continues through this crucial integration phase. We act as a strategic intermediary during offer negotiations, leveraging market data to help construct a competitive package and managing communications to prevent misunderstandings. Furthermore, our Talent MetaManagement® framework includes a structured post-placement follow-up process. This involves scheduled check-ins with both you and the newly placed leader at key milestones (e.g., 30, 90, and 180 days) to facilitate a smooth transition, proactively identify integration challenges, and provide coaching as needed. This commitment to successful onboarding is fundamental to our philosophy and significantly increases the return on your search investment.
