- Company profile: Manufacturing site of a multinational medical device or pharmaceutical company with a foreign corporate parent.
- Reports to: VP of Operations / Regional Director at the foreign parent company.
- Location: Northern Mexico manufacturing regions (Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, or Nuevo León); specifics disclosed to qualified candidates.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Plant Director / General Manager holds full accountability for a single manufacturing site, leading safety culture, production, quality compliance, and workforce management while serving as the primary liaison between the Mexican operation and a foreign corporate parent. This role is critical to companies navigating the shift from nearshoring expansion to operational optimization.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Direct all site operations including production, quality, safety, logistics, and workforce management.
- Establish and maintain a zero-accident, safety-first culture at the plant level.
- Report site performance, financials, and operational metrics to foreign parent company leadership with full transparency and reporting discipline.
- Lead and develop a Mexican workforce while aligning with global corporate standards and expectations.
- Drive plant-level continuous improvement and cost optimization initiatives.
- Ensure full regulatory compliance across quality, environmental, and labor standards.
- Manage local labor relations in compliance with Mexico’s labor law, including the 2026 40-hour workweek reform.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- 10+ years of manufacturing leadership experience, including prior plant director or general manager roles in Mexico.
- Demonstrated experience scaling a Mexican operation, not simply maintaining steady-state production.
- Bilingual fluency (English/Spanish) required.
- Experience reporting into a foreign, typically U.S., corporate parent company.
- Strong knowledge of Mexican labor law and workforce management practices.
